The mission of the American Arts Alliance
is to be the principal advocate for America's
professional nonprofit arts organizations and
their publics in representing arts interests
and advancing arts support before Congress
and other branches of the Federal government.
To achieve this mission, the Alliance will
inform legislators and policy makers of the
vital role of the arts in American society,
and advocate the development of national policies
which recognize, enhance and foster the contributions
that the arts make to America. |

Americans for the Arts is the nation's leading
arts information clearinghouse, with a 40-year
record of objective arts industry research.
As the preeminent arts advocacy organization,
it is dedicated to representing and serving
local communities and creating opportunities
for every American to participate in and appreciate
all forms of the arts. This year, we advanced
awareness of the arts by pursuing programs
and policies consistent with our three organizational
goals, stated simply: more money for the arts;
arts education for every child; and community
development through the arts.

The Arts Education Partnership (formerly
the Goals 2000 Arts Education Partnership)
is a private, nonprofit coalition of education,
arts, business, philanthropic, and government
organizations that demonstrates and promotes
the essential role of arts education in enabling

The Arts Extension Service has, since 1973,
connected the arts with communities through
education. AES is a national, nonprofit arts
service organization, a program of the Division
of Continuing Education, University of Massachusetts
Amherst. The agency strives to achieve access
to and integration of the arts in communities
through continuing education for artists, arts
organizations and community leaders.

Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM)
project is a consortium effort to provide
educators with quick and easy access to
the substantial, but uncataloged, collections
of educational materials found on various
federal, state, university, non-profit,
and commercial Internet sites.
GEM
began in 1996 after the National Library
of Education Advisory Task Force directed
the NLE to find ways to apply library and
information science skills to help educators
find lesson plans and teacher guides on the
Internet.
GEM is a project of the U.S. Department
of Education and is a special project of
the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information and
Technology.

Maryland Fine Arts Instructional Online
Tool Kit is a valuable resource for teachers,
administrators, educational practitioners,
parents, and community members who want
to learn about assessment and its relationship
to instructional practice, and content standards.
Presented within the framework of fine arts
education, the Tool Kit is intended for
use as an instructional tool and includes
four major categories of information: Maryland
Fine Arts Education, which presents a history
of fine arts education in Maryland; Developing
Fine Arts Assessments, where information
on best practice in a assessment development
is provided; Integrating Fine Arts Across
the Curriculum, which provides examples
of tasks that integrate fine arts content
areas with other content areas; and Assessment
Outcomes and Implication, where information
about the pragmatic use of assessment is
presented.

Founded
in 1957, the Maryland Association
of Boards of Education is a private,
non-profit organization to which
all school boards in the state
voluntarily belong. MABE sponsors
in service activities for board
members through an annual conference,
orientation programs for new board
members, and workshops on key topics.
MABE's elected Executive Committee
holds regular informal meetings
with the State Board of Education.
MABE represents the school board
point of view with the Maryland
General Assembly and the United
States Congress through its Legislative
Committee and Federal Relations
Network. MABE monitors and reports
to its members and the public about
current education issues through
its publications: The Monitor,
School Board News, MABE Brief,
Directory, and School Board Manual.
MABE maintains a collection of
current policy manuals from the
local boards of education, as well
as a reference library of education
governance materials. MABE is an
active member of the National School
Boards Association (NSBA). MABE
maintains close contact with other
organizations interested in public
education.

National Assembly of State Arts Agencies
(NASAA) is the membership organization
of the nation's state and jurisdictional
arts agencies. NASAA's mission is to advance
and promote a meaningful role for the arts
in the lives of individuals, families and
communities throughout the United States.
We empower state arts agencies through
strategic assistance that fosters leadership,
enhances planning and decision making,
and increases resources. Each of the 50
states and six jurisdictional governments
has created an arts agency to support excellence
in and access to the arts. For the last
30 years, the state arts agencies have
invested in our nation's cultural life
by nurturing artistic endeavors nationwide
and affording millions of people a greater
opportunity to participate. In addition
to supporting both established and emerging
artists and arts organizations, state arts
