The School Board Recognition Award is presented to a School Board of a public school system in the State of Maryland that has demonstrated support for and commitment to high-quality arts education in its school district and community. The state-level award recognizes districts that have included in their programs all four major arts disciplines, (visual arts, music, theatre, and dance), offered as part of the instructional school day. The current award recipient from Maryland along with former state-level winners will be eligible to be selected as the Maryland State candidate nominated for consideration in a national pool of nominees for the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education (KCAAEN)/National School Boards Association (NSBA) Award. This national award, administered by KCAAEN/NSBA, provides a cash award of $10,000 to use for arts education programs, and a plaque which is presented at the National School Boards Association Annual Conference.
