ARTS EDUCATION CELEBRATIONS
AEMS proudly uplifts and celebrates the power of the arts in Maryland schools through statewide and national initiatives. Each year these celebrations affirm our belief that the arts are a vital part of a well-rounded education.
National Arts In Education Week
The week beginning with the second Sunday in September
Each September, AEMS joins communities across the nation in celebrating National Arts in Education Week, a time to recognize and advocate for the essential role of the arts in a complete education. This week shines a spotlight on the creativity, innovation, and achievement that arts learning fosters in Maryland’s students, while also highlighting the vital work of our educators and advocates. Through events, stories, and partnerships, supporters honor the impact of arts education and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring every student has access to the transformative power of the arts.
Arts in Our Schools Month
Annually in March
Celebrated each March, Arts in Our Schools Month shines a spotlight on the vital role of the arts in education. Originating as a national initiative to recognize the impact of music, visual art, dance, theater, and media arts in schools, this month-long celebration encourages communities to advocate for equitable access to arts learning.
In 2025, Maryland took a bold step forward with an official proclamation recognizing March as Arts in Our Schools Month—a testament to our shared commitment to nurturing creativity, expression, and opportunity for all students.

Maryland Public High School Dance Showcase
Annually in January
The Maryland Public High School Dance Showcase is an annual event hosted by the Maryland Dance Education Association. It brings dancers, educators, choreographers, and advocates to celebrate the rich history and vibrant future of dance education through performances, workshops, panels, and collaborative sessions.
Teacher Appreciation Week
First full week of May
Teacher Appreciation Week is a nationwide celebration honoring the dedication and impact of educators who inspire and guide students every day. At AEMS, we take this opportunity to shine a special spotlight on Maryland’s arts educators—the teachers who nurture creativity, spark innovation, and empower students through the transformative power of the arts.
